Design Challenge:
Everything in this bathroom was an issue. The original 1937 pink and green floor tile was not only outdated but cracking. The brown plastic wall tile was, well, plastic and brown and the particle board vanity was small and difficult for both homeowners to use at the same time. The homeowners longed for a bathroom that was luxurious, comfortable for the both of them and ultimately timeless.
Design Solution: To begin, the existing radiator that was occupying too much space in this small bathroom was removed allowing for a larger vanity in which both homeowners can use at the same time. The vanity faucet was wall mounted to allow for additional counter space and heat is now provided via an in-floor heating system. Molaia Design worked with the homeowners to develop a color palette that would enlarge the small space, while also offering a slight hint of drama (this couple is accustom to bold colors, see Cape Cod descriptions). We settled on a combination of gold and silver tones that can be seen in the granite counter top, beaded floor and accent tile, wall color and the gorgeous window treatment fabric.
